Support and Enthusiasm Making Kansas City a Leading Location Contender for National EMS Memorial Agency Letters of Support and Logos Urgently Requested by Email!!! Download your sample letter of support here – then sign and mail! In December, 2006, the National EMS Memorial Board of Directors requested permanent location proposals for the National EMS Memorial. Each Memorial Day weekend, the National EMS Memorial Board of Directors conducts a formal memorial service for EMS personal that have died while performing their duties during the previous year.
These services attract 300-400 family members and friends to the annual service. The site also provides a place year around for families and loved ones to visit and reflect. Following the submission of a preliminary proposal in March of 2007 and a final proposal in July of 2007, the Kansas City area has been selected as one of the final locations under consideration. A site review team from the National EMS Memorial Board of Directors will be visiting the Kansas City metro area in November to meet with local EMS leaders and visit possible sites. During the review visit, MEMSA will host a luncheon for the site review team. MEMSA will run a continual PowerPoint program to display the logos of the many EMS agencies and associations that support the building of the National EMS Memorial in the Kansas City area. We urgently request any and all Midwest agencies to email letters of support as well as agency logos. Agencies need not be present at the luncheon to have its logo displayed. Some agencies have formal logos and others might provide a picture of their agency patch. Please send logo or patch images as a .jpg or similar format. E-mail to Ruby Mehrer, at

The Kansas City metro area is being considered for the permanent home of the National EMS Memorial not only because of the geographic location in the nation’s heartland but because of the tremendous outpouring of support from the EMS community. A recent online straw poll was sponsored by EMS Newsletter to determine where the memorial should reside. While the poll has no official impact, it certainly demonstrated that Kansas City has a tremendous amount of support. The final vote count for the poll shows Colorado Springs the winner by a narrow margin. While EMS Newsletter has taken the results off the website, the last numbers we saw had Kansas City with 48% of the vote, Colorado Springs with 51% and Arlington, Virginia, with 1%. With well over 5,000 votes counted, a lot of EMS people came out to support the Kansas City area for the honor of having the permanent National EMS Memorial. EMS agencies in the heartland have a tremendous opportunity to assist with the building of a proper EMS memorial. During the November site review, we are also presenting the site review team with a notebook containing letters of endorsement and support for building the memorial in the Kansas City area. These can be letters from agencies or letters from individuals. We believe that one of the strong points of the Midwest Proposal is that we have enormous support from the EMS community to host the permanent memorial as well as host the annual memorial service. We expect construction of the memorial to cost $1 million to $2 million. Recently the Missouri EMS Association (MEMSA) adopted a resolution committing MEMSA to raising $100,000 over the next five years to support the construction of the Memorial in the Kansas City metro area. We are requesting your assistance in two ways:
We have the ability to influence how we honor those dedicated individuals who have died while performing their EMS duties. Providing a site here in the Kansas City metro area as well as properly funding the memorial will achieve this goal. We are excited and very pleased that the national committee has selected the Kansas City area as one of the finalists for consideration for the National EMS Memorial permanent site. We know the caliber of EMS folks in our area but the national committee needs to see it in the form of the letters and pledges as above. Please help us show them that we are united in our efforts and that our efforts are wide spread. Thank you. We sincerely appreciate every letter and every dollar pledged! |
